It provides researchers, teachers and students with easy and secure access to the network when they visit institutions other than the one where they work. Authentication of users is performed by their home institution, using the same credentials provided by it, while authorization to access the Internet and other resources is managed by the host institution.

The University of Padua belongs to the federation and has proceeded to cover a large part of its spaces withe eduroam network.
